Dear friends,

with great pleasure we're announcing that Alan Bates' long out-of-print book "Naval Architect" is now available again.

In November 2011 Alan wrote us an e-mail asking to keep some of his books available (or, in case of the "Naval Architect" making it available again) to historians and river fans "for at least a few more years", as Alan wrote. We're very happy to do so and feel very honored that Alan chose us for this.

It took longer than I thought to make the first book in this series ready for printing, but eventually it's done now. We chose "Naval Architect" to be the first as it was out of print for a long time already and I guess many of you haven't had a chance to read it at all so far.

Now, here it is and I hope you enjoy reading "Naval Architect" as much as we did.

Franz

You'll find more information ab out the book in our news section and at Amazon.com.

“Naval Architect” is available from Amazon.com as well as retail book stores (ISBN: 978-1484939932):

paperback edition $12.50 (current amazon.com price: $10.83)

Kindle e-book edition $4.999086.jpg

This is welcome and exciting news for all river fans, especially for those who knew and respected Alan. Thank you Franz for making it possible for many of those who have not had opportunity to read some of Alan's writings to enjoy his inimitable style of telling stories. We intend to publish a notice and review of Naval Architect in the March 2014 Reflector as well, so our readers are alerted that they too can share in this wonderful opportunity.

While my copy is very plain, it is WELL worth the price and contains some of the interesting prose unique to Alan! Get one! Cap'n Walnut.

The daily mail packet landed over at the shipyard this morning and delivered the re-print of Alan's book. The cover is just dandy! What a great "stocking stuffer" for those steamboat buffs and buffettes on your holiday gift list!

Thanks so much Franz! I know that Alan would be very pleased!

PS: I'm publicizing the re-issue in the Old Boat Column of The Waterways Journal in the December 9th issue.

While this book is plain by many standards, it is pure Alan Bates all the way through. I highly recommend it. Cap'n Walnut
