Does anyone know where the Alaska Queen has gone off to? She seems to have left Ketchikan(?) For that matter, does anyone happen to know what her name was before moving to Alaska?

The ALASKA QUEEN was built between 1978 and 1984 by Hal Wilmunder on Sacramento, CA. She features the steam engines from the 1880's built Ohio River steamboat the DETROITER. She was originally named ELIZABETH LOUISE and ran in Sacramento until Hal's untimely death in 2007. His widow (Elizabeth) sold the vessel in 2008 to a group of investors who saw her as an attraction in Ketchikan, AK. They spent a year getting her ready to make the run up there and had a bunch of run-in's with the U.S. Coast Guard (who hadn't inspected a steamboat for Alaskan rivers in over 40 years!). She began her career up there in 2009. After one rather unsuccessful season she was moved to Seattle, WA where she ran until 2012. She is currently for sale... 1984 Custom Built 120 Steam Powered Paddle Wheel Other for Sale (22905) in King County, WA - Specs and Photos - POP Yachts

This was originally Hal Wilmunder's boat built for Sacramento River excursions. Became the AQ, then went to Seattle and became Queen of Seattle, and AFAIK is now awaiting a new owner. Not certain of her mechanical situation at this point in time.

A gem

They gave up after one season? Really? What were they expecting? Nice boat. Someone who has a little more gravel in their gut should snap it up. Maybe move it to a southern clime where they could operate more than 3 months. And not worry about pipes freezing 9 months out of the year. But what do I know?

And furthermore

We are trying to get ready for our 3 months and it is snowing like crazy.

Yes it is!

At least there are no tornados or earthquakes that can be felt here.
I've lived where there are both. I'll take snow.

What a Dump!

I know you got a dump of snow, too. Funny how we get our biggest snows in May. I'll still take it over the heat and humidity (that causes tornados) any day. We are in the process of getting ready to put wooden skegs on the bottom of our boat so it can make bank landings on a rocky shore and not do damage to the hull. The skegs have about 8" of snow on them, and more to come.

Thank you for the great research. Just to be clear from reading the for sale listing; the Queen of Alaska and Queen of Seattle are/were the same?

Yes, Karl...the vessel has operated under the names, ELIZABETH LOUISE, ALASKA QUEEN, and QUEEN OF SEATTLE. They are all the same vessel.

Thank you again. I suspected that they were the same but did not want to make that assumption.
