If you read down toward the bottom of this article, a MARAD spokesperson identifies the prospective buyer of the American Queen. Please tell me it is true.

Here's a better link - the other one doesn't work:

WOW!!! A MARAD spokes person acknowledging that the AQ has been purchased by a group headed by John Waggoner is fantastic. Even more fantastic is that they might be interested in the DQ. Waggoner is no new-comer to steamboats; his Hornblower Marine managed the BELLE OF LOUISVILLE during the past decade.
Perhaps it's best that Mr. Kelly wasn't successful in his attempt to purchase the DQ. After all, if he has not even done the most rudimentary of research to know the difference between a steamboat's boiler and engine, it doesn't bode well.
From what I can gather reading this website, it doesn't appear that Great American Steamboat Co. (GAS) and John Waggoner have anything to do with each other. GAS is the brainchild of American Cruise Line, which is a closely held family business.
Nevertheless...WOW!
