The Aq can be seen on google earth coordinates 30-01'26.82 N and 94-00'04.14 W. She is tied off to 4 ships not far from shore.
The river explorer is just west tied off to a group of barges.
Great Images
Thanks for the Google Earth find. I had been looking for her for some time. How was the AQ moved to this location? I know she was towed. From the pictures it looks like her paddle wheel is there, but no buckets and her stacks are clearly visable as are her stages. Also, is sitting in fresh or salt water. Was there an inland route (river) to this location or did they tow her in the Gulf?
AQ in Beaumont
Capt. Jay Wieck was one of her pilots, as he was on the DQ's trip to Chattanooga. He said they were emptying rooms and closing things up enroute there and it seemed a sadder trip than the DQ's. They removed bucketboards prior to the trip along the Intracostal Waterway.
This is brackish water. Went west on the ICW.
google earth
All 3 boats were visible on google earth near the Robin Street wharf until about a week ago. Now only the Mississippi Queen is there. The DQ in Chattanooga has not been updated thus far.
MQ
Even from the GE photos, you can see the rust and neglect on the MQ. Very sad.
Google earth has a feature that allows you to look at previous images. It is a small clock at the top of the page. You can click on the arrows and look at a scene over time. do this for New Orleans and you will see the boats in various positions and in various stages of refurbishing.

Thanks, Carmen. I couldn't help myself. As soon as I got oriented and saw her, I thought, "There's my baby".

Thanks for the link Carmen...
The CaLLiope Whistles seem to be there too. I'm glad of that...:)
I would hate to think 5 months worth of my work would go to a Scraper... 🙁
