Hey John,

Interesting comments about the buff colored paint. My boat was painted, what I consider to be buff, for the better part of her life while with the St. Paul C.O.E. I'll have to check with my St. Paul contacts to see if they remember if she attracted spiders in those colors or not. I have never heard what made the Corps decide to paint their boats in the color scheme they've used for some time. Perhaps that's a topic for another thread entirely. How about a story on company paint schemes for the old boat column Alan?

P.S. I'm biased of course, but I think my boat is starting to look pretty good. You mentioned a while ago about stopping down to maybe take some pictures for a future model project. I'm down there most weekends working away, and if I'm not, just tell Adam and the boys at Rivertowne what your up too, and they should let you in.

I remember that you sent me to clean the paddlewheels of four boats on which I worked for you. The bleach we used worked well and quickly. With the current shifting of the Deck Crew from that task to security services on the gangway has contributed to the accumulation of so much more slime. However, there is a no-cost solution: the few unoccupied staterooms can be given to former crew to come back for a few days to clean the paddlewheel during the long times that the boats sit in port. I would jump at the chance to beautify a steamboat and get a cruise to boot. How about anyone else?

You ARE a fine paddlewheel beautician, I must admit. And if the company would allow such an idea as you propose to take fruition, you would be one they should select to rectify the situation.

Keith, could you post a couple of those great pics you took of the NIGHTMARE while she was sitting at the Louisville Wharf?
