The Hampton Hotels chain has donated money and labor to the Str. BELLE OF LOUISVILLE as part of the Hampton's SAVE-A-LANDMARK project. The BELLE was chosen for a $10,000 grant and this week volunteers from area hotels helped put the money to use, doing painting on the interior of the boat and replacing 20 year old ceiling fans and light fixtures.
Thanks Hampton Hotel Folks!
since when do you replace antiques ?
WHAT antiques???? By definition, antiques are generally classified as items that are between 50 and 100 years old. Like many parts of the BELLE, those light fixtures and ceiling fans (which have been added in recent years) have probably been replaced more times than the number of years you've been on this earth!
Right you are, Keith. The BELLE in many ways is like the proverbial antique family axe: it's had three new blades and five new handles over the years, but it's still a priceless heirloom!! Hope I'm in as good a condition after 95 years. The difference is that many of the parts on the BELLE can be replaced, but I'm not sure that there are any available replacement parts for us old-timers . . .
