I had a delightful phone chat with Capt. Doc Hawley this evening and he asked me to convey his good wishes and thanks to all who have sent cards during his recuperation from a fractured hip. He's doing well and today enjoyed a walk, with the aid of his trusty cane, of about six blocks in the French Quarter where the temps in New Orleans were a balmy 74 degrees.
Doc is very sorry to have to miss the festivities on the DELTA QUEEN at Chattanooga this weekend and sends best regards to his many river friends who are aboard the boat for the 85 birthday celebration. Doc looks forward to taking part in the centennial celebration of the Str. BELLE of LOUISVILLE in 2014.
HAPPY STEAMBOATING!
