I'm hoping someone might be able to help me find some information or point me towards where to look.
A friend of mine's Great Great Grandfather was a riverboat captain on the Ohio sometime around the 1850's. His name was Elisha Simmons (Timmons) Spencer. He was listed as living in either Athens, OH or Hockingsport, OH in 1851. This is the year he became father of future Mayor of Ogden, UT, Hiram H. Spencer.
Information we'd like to find is what company he ran boats for, or what boats he actually ran if possible to find out. Thanks!
