My brother drove right by her in Pierre Part and said they are already dismantling her. I also got confirmation over the phone from the yard owners son. So thats it folks.

Thanks for the confirmation...

Thanks for what most of us, save a travel agent who made an announcement on the DQ recently, knew what the MQ's fate was. Now if they remove all the superstructure and do a complete rebuild on the hull and still call it the MQ and get it running in 2013, I guess she would technically be correct. However, I wouldn't consider that to be our MQ - similar to the CINCINNATI/PRESIDENT and ALBATROSS/ADMIRAL conversions. Hopefully our mystery photographer or your brother will send us some photos, sad as they may be...

This is a copy of the email that I received back from Argosy after my initial inquiry about how much they would ask for the vessel outright. I received this answer Wednesday morning.

Sorry the boat is not for sale. The hull could be turned into a deck barge worth $ 3M

So this is their website, Argosy Boat Company, LLC

I see deck barges is one of their services to the maritime industry.
Very sad to hear this is coming true, I never thought, when I watched the Mississippi Queen disappear around the bend below Point Pleasant, WV in 2006... it would be the last time I would ever see her. 🙁

terrible time! RIP Mississippi Queen

The travel agent had correct and valid inside information, and what she announced on the DQ recently was a possibility that very well could have come to fruition, which she clearly stated and had authorization to announce. Indeed, there could have been an 11th hour reprieve for the MQ and her fate was up in the air, but in the end it was, as it's always been, about the $$.

Heartbreaking though the conclusion is, it's also a relief to finally have some semblance of closure to this saga, after many months of an emotional roller coaster ride of rumors. Now it's time to accept this "death" and move on. As we bid farewell to a loyal lady of the river we all have varied and fond remembrances of the MISSISSIPPI QUEEN --- and those memories and memorabilia will sustain us. And now we need to focus and devote our energies onto other avenues to save what precious little is left of STEAMBOATING as we know and love it. Keep up steam!6831.jpg
