Spent last Sunday night onboard the Delta King in Sacramento CA. I spent a week in CA visiting family down in Santa Maria & up in Redding.

Despite the rumors I keep hearing on this side of the Rocky Mountains, they are doing quite well. Despite a 3 week lead time, the only night I could book and fit into my travel schedule was last Sunday night...as they were sold out otherwise!

I had dinner in the restaurant Sunday night which was excellent by all means, service was excellent as well. My night included breakfast Monday morning, equally top notch as was the service. Managed to pick up some souvies as well, since it had been 10 years since my last visit to the King.

Well worth the visit if one is in the Bay area or even beyond! The nearby Sacramento County Museum, and the California State Railroad Museum are also must visits!
The pic of the Chrysopolis model is in the Sacramento Museum, they don't have much in terms of river history however...this boat sort of started it all inthe California Delta, which ended with the Delta King & Delta Queen. I was also terribly surprised the Chrysopolis was built in 1860 and last until the late 1930's, something I think which was unheard of east of the Rockies...

a few more pics from the Delta King...one gets a bad case of "deja vu" while on the King, as compared to the Delta Queen!

a few more pics, a riverboat game and a model of the Steamer Cherokee from the Sacramento County Museum, seeing the Cherokee, one sees how the design of the Delta King & Delta Queen came about!

Last pic is the start of the Sacramento River located in a city park of Mount Shasta California, very near Mount Shasta itself. My cousin drove me up here especially considering I was going to be in Sacramento on the Delta King.

Pete,

What fascinating pictures from the DELTA KING. She is looking great! They did a great job with her, I am very impressed.

Thanks for taking the time to share these pictures with us all!

Pete, Wish I'd known you were going to be out here--you passed right through my hometown of Dunsmuir, where the Sacramento is a trout stream. Trivia here: most rivers are named after their largest tributary, that considered containing the "Headwaters." The Pitt river is larger than the Sacramento when they meet (now in Shasta Lake) so it should be called the "Pitt River", and the valley would be "The Pitt Valley"--it's the Pitts where I live! Hmm, yeah, good thing they chose Sacramento for the name!
That Deja Vu feeling is so strong that I've done a powerpoint entitled "The Delta Queen & Delta King, not quite twins anymore." It consists of photos taken from the same locations on each boat. I presented it on one of the last year's DQ cruises. Thanks for sharing. Linda & I need to spend another night onboard--but it gets too overwhelmingly emotional for us.

My cousins used to live in Lake Shastina from the late 80's until 8 years ago wehn they relocated to Redding...so yes, we passed Dunsmuir.

I frankly forgot you were in the area as I haven't been on Steamboats.org for a spell.
I noticed the impressive Packers Bay on the Pitt River while traversing I-5....nice!

Next time I'm out there...I will be in touch!

Pete,
I go back far enough that I remember when Lake Shastina was Dwinell Reservoir. When they first started the development, we natives thought it was a con job! I see now where some group wants the dam removed!
Yes, let us know when you're coming out again!
