S.S. Delta Queen Green line Stimers INC. PLATE Vintage - eBay (item 290502232304 end time Nov-26-10 05:35:28 PST)

I wanted to let the Steamboats.org folks know about this one...a few years ago I sold two of these from the family collection for well over $150 a piece!!!! $30 is by far a long bargain in comparison!

DQplate

You're kidding! I sold my extra one for $1 at our River Ramblings rummage sale. Guess that's why I'll never be rich!

Silver DQ Plate

Has anybody got one of the sterling silver DQ plates or seen one on Ebay? Are they still available?

*RE: Silver DQ plate/Gold tree ornaments*
Hi, Lexie & steamboating colleagues:
There's a silver DQ plate here in one of the dining room corner cabinets amongst the dusty salt/pepper shakers, tea service. Frankly, I'd forgotten about it until Travis mentioned the DQ blue/white plates with your follow posting. No idea about any silver plates on e=bay as I seldom look unless somebody here gives a heads up.

Another item was the 14 K gold Christmas tree ornament in double relief like a little diorama with CINCINNATI arched over the top, the DQ imposed in front with the Roebling Suspension Bridge in the rear in nice detail. The whole ornament is 2 X 2 & 1/2 inches high. They were molded, gold plated by AMERILANE, USA (C). The one I just unpacked is stamp marked 1983. I've forgotten how both came here. In addition to being sold on the DQ, there was a fine little shop in Cincinnati dealing in better holiday ornaments/items focused on Cincinnati memorabilia. Would any of our colleagues here have one similar dated earlier? Well, what do I know?

Silver plate

Its a Reed and Barton plate, Lexie. Mine was in my NOLA apartment for years and is now on my dining room wall, near your artwork.

this isn't a very good shot of it - it isn't really tarnished but the flash didn't go off...and once again the vertical posts horizontally...6295.jpg6296.jpg

Cincy ornament a a steamboat Christmas tree

Here is my Cincinnati ornament similar to Dale's, I believe. Mine is from 1987. It is hanging from my Steamboat Christmas Tree, which used to grace the roof of the BELLE OF LOUISVILLE. I've hung all my boat ornaments thereon, and topped it off with a mug given to me due to my feelings about the l o n g commercialized Christma$ $ea$on....6297.jpg6298.jpg

This thread about the Reed and Barton DQ plate aroused my curiosity and sent me rummaging in the dining room cabinets. Yep, I have one, too! Seems like these date from about 1972 or so.

winning EBay bid on plate

I checked the plate auction that Pete posted to start this thread, and the winning bid was 19.99, the only bid. Still a pretty good price for something sold for $1 on the boat in the 50s...

DQ ornament

I wouldn't mind having one of them ornyments. Something I wasn't aware of. And one of those sketches, I remember, but the other, the dock scene,well.... Guess I need to get out my slides of artwork and have a review.

*RE: DQ gold Christmas Ornament*
Hi, Lexie & steamboating colleagues:
Judy's fine photo posted of the gold DQ Christmas ornament nailed it for sure and much thanks to her. A picture worth a 1,000 words. I'm not sure when the company ended the DQ ornament production/sales but mine is stamped 1983. Another 'shy lurker' informed me they have one dated as late as 1987; so each year was so stamped going into the holiday season. Not sure if the Cincinnati shop selling ornaments/Cincinnati memorabilia is still in existence. I'll be in town Monday and may saunter over on 4th St. to see but doubt it. McAlpins Department Store also sold them but they're long gone now with the big building--similar to Shillito Store--now rehabbed as upscale downtown condos etc. I also recall lots of memorabilia beginning with the 1788-1988 Cincinnati Bicentennial/1st Tall Stacks also. Times change, for sure.

Inflation!

Chris, it cost $1 when my parents bought it in the late 1950s. Inflation would put that about $6.94 today... and the plates are no longer in production, it is an antique, but most of all, its steamboating!

I know, never rode the now idled boats before but remember seeing all of them at one point or another while on our yearly family boating vacation at Marietta. Well, ok, not the JBS, but the DQ, MQ and AQ, anyhow back to the subject, been buying up some items to help with the memories and so I'll have something to share with my lil girl when she gets older.

I think the reason the plate went so high was because some folks got into a bidding war with each other...no more than outbidding egos that time I think!
Kind of like the last few PSSOA meetings I was @ back in 2005!

Plate arrived.

Can't complain about the shipping time, but it was none to clean, almost get the idear someone ate off it before shipping it. oh well.
anyhow, there is no date on it, so no telling how old it may be. ironically the steamboat Hallmark ornament i ordered showed up at the same time. So much for sneaking it in without getting caught. lol
