Help! I am looking for information for a boat that the source (newspaper article) refers to only as "Dredgeboat No. 48". She was used in levee repair on the Red River in Grant Parish, La. after the high water of 1945. There is no reference as to whether she was a Corps vessel or a La. state boat. I have tried all my usual sources, but come up dry. In fact, I'm having trouble finding info on old C of E boats generally. Can anyone here point me in a direction where I might look? Thanks!
If you are near a big library or land grant collage try the annual lists of "List of Merchant Vessels of the United States". (T17.2 or TD5.12/2) In the back of many issues there are lists of Federal Government boats. If I remember right the Red River is or was in the Memphis District and in the 1970's and 1980's there were district historians and there may still be. Their Public Relations office may also be of help.

Thanks Carl-
I have corresponded with the CoE public relations people, and while they were of considerable help on some of the other snagboats, they had no record of any boat by that name or number. I still have a number of other sources to research, including the one you mention, but I have a suspicion that it may have been a private contractor's boat or a state of Louisiana boat.
