Just a reminder for those of us not on the DQ this week, that the AMERICAN QUEEN will be in Davenport tomorrow(Wednesday) for her final stop here on the UMR this year...and who knows if not forever. She'll be leaving at 2:30 so the L&D 15 webcam should pick her up shortly after that, since the landing is just across the river. I know David Tschiggfrie is documenting her day in Dubuque today, and I will be doing so here tomorrow - just in case. I hope the people at MAL who 'don't read this board' are enjoying the sadness they have caused for the multitude of Joe/Josephine the steamboat fans across the country...and across the ocean...

Yes, Judy, as unbelievable as it seems, you are quite right in suggesting that the inland rivers may have no overnight passenger steamers in service next year, and this may well be the AQ's farewell trip on the UMR! Only time will tell. The AQ landed here around 5:30 a.m. I would suspect. I went down to the Ice Harbor landing before class at 9:00 this morning to shoot some photos at Rivers Edge Plaza. A beautiful sunny, crisp morning. After class, I went back to videotape her 1 p.m. departure, and then sped down to Julien Dubuque's Monument to film her heading downriver below town for what I hope will not be the last glimpse we ever see of her up here. A very sobering thought indeed . . .
Although I can't post any of the video on here, I will try to get one or two shots from this morning posted after my night class finishes up this evening.

These are hopefully not the last views of the AQ at Dubuque. All taken at about 9:15 a.m., October 21, 2008.2212.jpg2213.jpg2214.jpg
