Hey all,
Today on Facebook I was made aware of the new, much more comprehensive website for the Great American Steamboat Company and the Steamboat AMERICAN QUEEN.
There are some exciting things coming down the river from Memphis! Take a look and see!
I don't know about you...but, I can't wait to stroll her decks again and see you all back where we all belong....Steamboatin!
Take a look....I think you will be very happy with what you see!

"Voyages to the Heartland of America"
Voyages to the Heartland of America...sounds wonderfully familiar. If they carry out what they propose on the website, they will indeed have listened to their valuable base of repeaters. I know they have a commitment with the city to fill hotel rooms, thus the one hotel night included with the price, but hopefully the other things now included like shore tours and beverages won't jack up the base price too much. Those are things not every passenger would want, and would be one way to keep the price down if not required. But the overall impression is BUENO, not MAL(o)!!!!!!!! Hallelujah, we needed some good river news!
Yaaaaaaaaaaaay Can't wait to get on the boat again
After seeing the pix posted on there Facebook page I beleave I'm going Steamboatin.. 🙂
Looks like the steamboat race is back on!
This sounds good, REAL good!

This should be entertaining, watching that gigantic boat make the turn as six mile island will be quite a sight! You better believe I'll be there to watch! So glad to see steamboatin coming back to life!
I think that I've gone over every square inch of the new web site, and it is pretty impressive. The description of what will be offered sounds good. A few things that I gleanned from the site is that $995.00 will be the lowest fare. I assume that will be for a three night trip. It does not specifically say that the Kentucky Derby Steamboat Race trip from Memphis to Cincy or the Kentucky Derby trip will be next year, but once again, I think that's a safe assumption, barring any difficulties bringing her out. There will be a 10 night Civil War trip between Vicksburg and Chattanooga, with an overnight stay in each town. Also available will be more dining options including a po' boy sandwich menu available most of the day. Wine and beer is compimentary at dinner along with soda and bottled water. Coffee makers will be in the rooms. To me it looks very exciting.
Now to be truly fair, the AQ should run that race with only the stern wheel and no diesel assist. Otherwise it won't be a true steamboat race. Wonder which boat would have the advantage under that circumstance?
there is only one rule in steamboat racing...
There are no rules!
Anyway, the last time we were on the DQ and won, fair and square, the trophy antlers and winning place were awarded to the Belle anyway. We were home towned, so now its revenge time....!

Nice new website! Lots of things do sound pretty familiar!! And that´s great!
I see there will be in-cabin coffee makers. And shore tours are included. I´d prefer to have a choice: no tours, single tours or complete package. Most of us repeaters won´t need any shore tours at all - been there done that.
I´m waiting for the itineraries and the pricing.

Somebody else included the shore tours, was it the River Explorer? I too wouldn't want them included, as I wouldn't take them anyway and regardless of what is claimed, it does raise the price. Ditto with the hotel night included. But I believe they had to guarantee the city of Memphis x number of hotel nights booked, so this is how that is handled. But again, it is an additional cost to the cruise fare, which we know won't be competitive with the giant foreign-flagged cruise lines, and any little bit to keep it as low as possible would help the wavering potential passenger. Paying for a hotel or shore tour later doesn't seem to chase someone away as much as a big initial booking price. Look at airfares: they always show the base price, which we accept. Then we get hit with $50 or so for checked bags , but that's later so we don't necessarily add that to the fare in our minds.
Thankyuhverumuch.
Did they guarantee the city of Memphis tours of Mud Island and Graceland??
