A whistle salute and a rendition of HAPPY BIRTHDAY on the calliope to Capt. Bill Judd today!
Have a great day Bill and Keep UP steam! Heard through the sternline telegraph that today is Carmen Winkler's natal day too!
A barge load of best wishes to both -- from the curator and crew of the Howard Steamboat Museum!
Happy Birthday, Capt'n. Bill, and we're all hoping that there are many more!
Best wishes to Carmen also, only auf Deutsch.
Gluckliche Geburtstag!
Thanks to all for your best wishes and I felt honored to share the day with Carmen, however I have no idea what Frank said to her.
Well, I hope that I said in German, Happy Birthday! If I didn't, God only knows what I said. High school German was a long time ago!
I know what you mean Frank! We have two "south of the border" workmen doing some of the renovation of the restrooms here at the museum. Their contractor boss was in absentia and they kept leaving the back door open. Since they do not speak English I had to "call up" some ancient knowledge from three years of high school Spanish. I graduated from New Albany High School in 1972! HOPING that I had said the right phrase and not something stupid or obscene, they grinned and closed the door with a "Si". I breathed a sigh of relief and gratefully uttered, "Gracias"!
As I've said before, every new day at the HSM is an adventure!
Thanks for the birthday wishes!! And a belated Happy Birthday to Bill!
Frank, it´s a bit more complicated in German and you can´t translate Happy Birthday word by word:
Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag
is what we say.
Carmen
Happy birthday Bill oh by the way are you old as the Sewickley?
Hi Capt. Bob: Actually the old girl is five years older than this old man, however we are both going strong. All things were just built better back then.
