Here are a couple of pictures of Doc through the years as we commemorate his 81st birthday today, August 1!
1) tuning the calliope before a Sunday afternoon concert in the late 1980s.
2) receiving the National Rivers Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award in Dubuque in 1993
3) a sketch from about 1966 by his dear friend Dorothea Frye

Here Doc play the calliope on the Avalon
Happy birthday, Doc! May you have many more.
You can here Doc play the calliope on the Avalon about 1960 at my web site - [email protected].
Birthday special: I can send anyone interested a copy of just the CD without the book for $7 postage paid. Thanks to modern technology we can hear the good old days on the river today and for ever more.
This recording started out as a 33 1/3 LP record. I have two extra mint copies if anyone wants a copy of this classic. $20 each carefully packed and shipped within the US.
Keep your steam up!
