I was just curious as to if anyone knows anything about The Goldenrod Showboat? I worry about her. The new owners at one time had a web site -- “Where Shall We Go?” And they wanted suggestions. What to only let it sit and decay?
The Goldenrod Showboat spent over fifty years on the St. Louis levee before St. Charles bought it as a dinner-theater attraction in 1990. I have fond memories of The Melodramas the levee.
Once moved to St. Charles I did attend a play on The Goldenrod and thought it was NOT an issue of the boat but an issue with money. The play was good but the “paying” audience simply was not there. They showed no profit that night. Lack of publicity perhaps?
When the Goldenrod Showboat left the St. Charles riverfront, the vessel was put in storage in Illinois and the current owner just let it set. Talk about structural problems!!
I happen to know that The Goldenrod Showboat is a Registered National Historic Landmark. How can it simply be destroyed for money by the owners?? I truly am lost here. A Registered National Historic Landmark destroyed for profit??
I hope to attach a few photos from The Goldenrod Showboat.

Can a registered National Historic Landmark be destroyed for profit? Yes.
From the National Park Service National Historic Landmarks webpage, q and a section:
"Listing of private property as a National Historic Landmark or on the National Register does not prohibit under Federal law or regulations any actions which may otherwise be taken by the property owner with respect to the property. The National Park Service may recommend to owners various preservation actions, but owners are not obligated to carry out these recommendations. They are free to make whatever changes they wish if Federal funding, licensing or permits are not involved. (Questions regarding Federal involvement are answered in the next section.) Federal laws that involve National Historic Landmarks are listed in the Federal regulations governing this program, specifically in 36 CFR 65.2 "Effects of Designation" (c)(1-7)."
The ownership of the boat is in dispute, still. There was a court date set in mid January to "resolve all issues" but that has been postponed until mid March of this year.
Here´s an article about the current status of the Goldenrod

Obviously it´s still not clear who is owning the Goldenrod.

I have been to her (Goldenrod) recently and she isn't in great shape. I have pictures as of 5/17/2009. I would like to do something about her but by the time I get the proper education and money, she would be beyond repair. I can send you those pictures in a diffrent email because I have tried and they didn't load all the way. I love those pictures of the inside of the baot and the wooden hull was great. I found a website that has pictures as of the third of June this year. If you go to ask.com and type in Goldenrod showboat, then when the hits come up, look for one that says ecology of absence:Goldenrod showboat celebrates its centennial. There are some very close pictures of the boat and I thought you might like to see them while I send you my pictures. I really would like a reply as to if this helps answer your question or not let me know at [email protected]
