Just a last minute reminder that the annual Holiday Open House at the Howard Steamboat Museum is THIS Sunday (December 11th) from 1:00 until 4:00 PM. Admission is free!
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in the Library to visit with the little ones and to pose for pictures.
Our good friend Kadie Engstrom, education coordinator for the BELLE of LOUISVILLE, will be on deck to sign her beautiful new book, Pathway through the Past, a pictorial timeline through regional landmarks in Kentuckiana. It's an excellent book and the layout was done by Kadie's sister. Lots of great river material in it, of course!
The gift shop is well stocked with books, DVD's, mugs, prints, model plans, CD's and other great stocking stuffers for that riverboat buff and buffette on your list!
Come enjoy the Howard mansion, decorated in holiday Victorian finery, and have some punch and cookies in the dining room with us!
Merry Christmas from the Howard Steamboat Museum!

I'm planning on stopping by later in the day, as I don't miss the Kingfish foray. Remind me I need to do some last minute shopping while there.
In absentia
I won't be there in body, but will be in spirit...wish it weren't a 423 mile Sunday afternoon drive! I bought Kadie's book last fall, and it certainly is well done, as one would expect. I know so little about Louisville away from the river so it is very informative in that regard, but she of course has plenty of river stuff in it too. Ho ho ho from 7 degree country!
And to ALL a Good Night!
Thanks to ALL who took part in the holiday festivities at the Howard Steamboat Museum this afternoon. The event was well attended, with many young parents bringing youngsters to visit Santa, Kadie signed her book for appreciative customers, the gift shop did a brisk business, plenty of goodies and punch were consumed in the dining room and there was the usual fellowship when two or more gather in the name of steamboating!
It was great, as always, to visit with Capt. Mike Fitzgerald, Jo Ann Schoen, Jimmy Reising, Keith Baylor & family, Capt. Kevin Mullen, Travis Vasconcelos, Ted Guillaum, Capt. Pete, Evie and Kathleen O'Connell, et al.
An august group enjoyed a leisurely and delectable dinner at Kingfish, giving us a ringside seat for the spectacular sunset over the Ohio, which is on the rise again. Just across the river, the BELLE was aglow in lights, looking as if she might depart on a "moonlite" at any minute.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
