I love that picture.. Somehow the boat doesn't seem to fit the time period of everything else.

HSM Exhibition Catalog

Today the printer delivered the 48 page catalog for the exhibition. The cover features views of Capt. Jim Howard on horseback in the yard of the mansion, circa 1910, a scene of the stern of the towboat MARK TWAIN under construction in 1930, and a head on view of the packet J.H. MENGE returning to the Howard yards after a trial run. The profusely illustrated catalog is full of images of the Howard family, shipyard scenes, steamboat cabins, engine rooms, etc.

The catalog is available for $20 at the museum or $25 by mail.

Copies of last year's catalog, The Howards' World, as well as previous shows, including Harlan Hubbard - The River's Artist also are available. Visit the gift shop section of the museum website at Howard Steamboat Museum - Home Page for further information.7772.jpg

HSM Publicity in the Newspaper

Today's Courier-Journal carries a fine article about the opening of the museum art show, illustrated with color pictures of Jimmy Reising pointing out features on some photographs and one of the newly restored chandelier in the Library.

The article is well written by reporter/photographer Jenna Esarey, who recently did a great job of covering the Bicentennial Steamboat Exhibition in New Albany. Jenna told me yesterday that she's learned a LOT about steamboats this year and it made a recent visit to New Orleans much more meaningful when she took a cruise aboard the Str. NATCHEZ!

Thanks Jenna! We appreciate your good work!
