The annual Christmas Open House at the Howard Steamboat Museum & Mansion will be this Sunday, December 14th, from 1:00 until 4:00 PM. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted to help with the continued operation of the museum and its programs.

- Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit for free photos with the children.
- Carl and Mary Kramer will be signing their book This Place We Call Home, A History of Clark County, Indiana.
- Take a chance on a LARGE candy cane, made and donated by Jeffersonville's famous Schimpff's Confectionery - just like the one the Howard children purchased at Schimpff's a century ago. Raffle proceeds benefit the museum.
- Christmas shop in the museum gift shop with a large selection of steamboat, river and local history books, prints, CD's, DVD's, souvenirs, monkey fist keyrings, riverboats-in-a-bottle, magnets, mugs, new tote bags, etc. Lots of great stocking stuffers for the steamboat fanatics on your list!
- Living history re-enactors will portray Laura Howard (wife of Capt. Edmonds Howard, builder of the mansion) and her son, Capt. Jim.
- Homemade refreshments will be served in the dining room.

The museum is located at 1101 East Market Street in Jeffersonville, Indiana, across from Jeffboat. Further information is available by clicking on Howard Steamboat Museum - Home Page or by calling 812-283-3728.

I'll be "on deck" at my usual post in the second floor steamboat exhibits.

Y'all come see us and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Curator Keith

Keith,
We'll be there in spirit! If you have too much "spirits" don't blame us!!
Meantime, we're out here in, so far, dry Californy--though we might have snow at our house by Sunday, according the the weather medium office!
Have a good un'!
Steamcerely,

Keith, and all the Steamboaters Extrordinaire who come to this wonderful party: I wish I could be there! I am in Saginaw, MI, with my oldest son at the moment. For those of you who have not come to this open house, it is well worth it--at chance to meet people you've communicated with on the board, and a chance to support a wonderful museum. For whatever reason, the Louisville area is still a mecca for steamboating. Go if you can, and have a great time!!
