Pete: those light-colored items appear to me to be core boxes; the dark-colored ones at the upper right appear to be the cores made from them and assembled. If that is true, what is visable defines the hollow space INSIDE whatever casting was intended...the cores, being made of sand, were broken up and shaken out after the castings solidified. If it is true that this is the core, difining the inside of something, we must go from there, having no depiction of what the external form of the casting itself looked like. If my surmise is correct, there is little wonder at the difficulty re identification. That appears to be a steam radiator in the upper left background and, if so, has nothing to do with the question. That having been said, I won't be surprised that someone can and will identify the finished product.
I agree, these are pattern cores and some core boxes. I don't think they are for one item, but samples of his work, rather complex ones too. The valve and piping against the wal has nothing to do with the patterns. Neat picture!
