It was 85 years ago today, Oct. 12, 1925, that Commodore John Streckfus died in St. Louis. He is buried here in Rock Island, where he started the Acme Packet Co. which later became Streckfus Steamers, the largest excursion boat company on the Mississippi. Today there are many fourth generation Streckfi still working on the rivers. Two of them best known to .orgers would be Capt. Verne Streckfus and Capt. Joy Manthey. Here's to the kid from Edgington who moved into the city (RI) and later to the bigger city(St.L.) and gave the entire UMR and NOLA years of excursion boating pleasure.
And of course, the WASHINGTON and the SENATOR served the Ohio River as well...

What ever happened to Lisa Streckfus? She was one of the pilots on the DQ in 2004 when we made our little trip.

Lisa

Last I heard she had left the river and was running a b&b she owned in Indiana.

Last year after the MOR crossed on the BADGER, I went down to Lisa's B&B, and found out she sold it earlier in the year. She at that time was working on one of the gaming boats on Lake Michigan.
