Don't worry I didn't take any offense to your reply. There is no one who loves steamboats more than I. I was fortunate enough to see the last of the steam era. I have a picture that I took on the DELTA QUEEN in 1958 where there are three running steam sternwheel boats...the DQ, Omar, and Geo. M Varity. I wish all those boats were running today. Perhaps I am too much of a realist.

JIM; I really don't think ANYONE took any offense by your comment.. LOL
( I sure didn't ), and I'm one of the few poeple keeping a dieing STEAM art alive.
I'm now behind because I had to buy new parts for Steam Calliope 44, in order to keep it SAFE and running this season.. "But we WILL make it up"..
And people who would have never heard a Steam CaLLiope before, "WILL hear one"..
There is alot to be said for preserving history AND Steam..YES, Steam is very costly in our day. It is also very Beautiful and Powerful..
It also built our great nation..
And our leaders in washington need to realize that preserving history/Steam,
SHOWS where we have been,, in order for us to know where we are going.!.!

Just curious: What kind of boiler do you use for your calliope? Got any pictures of it you could post?

Graceful Ghost

Lexie,

We have relatives in Houston and we visit every so often. How far is the Graceful Ghost from there. Also, when will your season start. I have read that your are limited in the number of passengers that you can carry, but we would come all the same. AND, a steamboat MUST have a calliope, good luck with that project.

Lexie:
It's a 15hp Bryan water tube Boiler, propane fired..And made here in my town. Ours is almost 30 years old and has been rebuilt by the factory about 12 years ago.
It will go from cold Boiler to 100 pounds in about 20 minutes..
Before I had the Bryan Boiler I ran a vertical coal-fired boiler.

Here is their web site with a pic of the model I have..
