Was down to Anderson Ferrry below Cincinnati today...Ohio River at 47.4' at the time and velocity 4.3 mph! Some 370,000 cubic feet /second. Impressive but no big deal as it appears to be on the way down. Seeing the flood pix of Nashville, does anyone know about the safety of the GENERAL JACKSON? Cap'n Walnut.

Gen. Jackson and Nashville Flood
Tom, I have no official report on the General Jackson other than some ariel video and the statement that she is tied up and safe at her landing. Opryland hotel and mall are a completely different story. I noticed just a few minutes ago coming to work that you can once again see the top of Riverfront Park where the steamboats use to land. Yesterday all you could see was the sidewalk in places although water was still in the street at 1st and Broadway. So the water is starting to recede slowly.
A neighbor was helping a flooded out friend in River Plantation where they were told a couple of years ago that they were no longer in a flood plain so of course they dropped flood insurance. How can the Corp of Engineers make such a statement? Is the Corp like every other political entity and influenced by lobbyists and land promoters?
Ted: Just heard from my brother that on the Kentucky River the boat dock tore loose from Frankfort and the paddle-wheeler at Shakertown was torn loose and swept over the near-by dam. When captured, the paddle wheeler was little damaged. All of the above is unconfirmed. If the latter is true, they are going to have a fine time getting the boat back up over the dam...all locks are closed, I believe! Cap'n Walnut.
Wow, I'm sorry to hear that news about the DIXIE BELLE at Shakertown. It was one of the few remaining commercial vessels still operating on the Kentucky River ("lakes"). I call them lakes because with nearly all dams in disrepair, that's what the river has become, unfortunately.
Frankfort was in "Major" flood stage, at nearly 12' over flood stage. Pool level at Frankfort is about 8' on the gauge. It crested at 42.8' on Tuesday.
Here's a link to the story about the DIXIE BELLE. Dodged a bullet for sure.

Steve: Thanks for the photo. Periodic hard rain up here this morning on Gunpowder Creek Hope all is well at Lamb! Cap'n Walnut.
Capt, Deb, me and her red mare were westbound on I-24 on Sunday afternoon. The GJ was looking pretty fine when we drove by in the distance.
Can't say the same for Opryland Hotel and the Grand Ol' Opry...This mechanical engineer noticed LOTS of pumps on big trucks and water flying everywhere...I-24 was nice shade of southern dirt red, obviously previous flooded...
Even us getting outa Pickwick, washed out roads with huge ruts, lots of gravel, that hampered our departure via bus.
