With the June 19, 1816 explosion of the Steamboat Washington in Marietta, and other rivermen living in Marietta, it is a good bet that some of the people buried in the Mound Cemetery were rivermen and their families.
Does anyone know if it is possible to find out who is buried where on the grounds of the Mound Cemetery? Actually, my interest is more in the late 20th Century, but a lot of people reading this pass through Marietta from time to time.
Hi, Bruce & steamboating colleagues:
Good question Re: Marietta, Ohio's famed Mound Cemetery. I've breifly visited there in the past but needed much more time to wander and explore. Once you start reading head stones, names, dates or admiring the carved work time flits by.
*To get you started I went to GOOGLE and typed in Mound Cemetery, Marietta, Ohio. A number of web pages and links popped up instantly to view. I didn't get in far enough to see what famed steamboat veterans are buried there. There are others on this web who may know in a jiffy. Most cemetery associations keep records by name, plot etc. There may be a link or an address to help in such a search.
Cheers,
