On this website is a picture of the showboat Goldenrod. In the pic is a work barge that appears to have a pair of stacks that look like the original ones from the MQ. If you look close, it appears to have some sort of superstructure the stacks are attached to. Check it out and tell me what you think.

MQ stacks

I don't know where that picture is on here, could be one I took. But at one point, yes there was an MQ stack on a work barge, maybe two. I don't remember if they replaced the tops in St. Louis or what. One time they did hit the I-55/70 bridge on departure and one of the stacks got knocked off. It flew by Dan Forman as he descended the steps after playing the farewell calliope concert. It could be from that incident, I don't know. Can you post the link to the pix for us?

Mike and Judy,

The crowns off the MISSISSIPPI QUEEN second set of stacks are indeed on a work barge imediataly below the Poplar Street Bridge. In 2007 they were repainted with a blue band instead of the red one they had aboard the MQ. Only the crowns are on the barge...they are on the head of the barge and rather prominently displayed.

If you go to the main page and click steamboat photos the list appears. Click Showboat Goldenrod and its the first pic to pop up. I have found that if you have google earth, you can go to street views and see it rather well. The street view from the bridge seems to be the best.
