Today I received a picture from a friend that shows the label on a package of Boar's Head Blackened Turkey Breast. Featured on the label is a picture of the Mississippi Queen's stern wheel in a "going away" shot of the boat.

At least it isn't on a bologna package... although garlic bologna might be very appropriate regarding certain Pilot House tastes.
*RE: Boar's Head in Cyberspace*
Hi, Jim and Keith:
Thanks, Jim, for giving us heads up on 'Boar's Head Blackened Turkey Breast' with MQ's sternwheel. For the heck of it, I went on line for various Boar's Head products showing labels/wrapping. Their products good--very good--but you pay for it. Then wormed into their corporate website. Lo,' and behold in there the the two postings from you and Keith popped up clear as a bell. Any chance you can do a posting of that turkey wrapping for us to ogle? The other big product we've discussed here in the past has been old STEAMBOAT COFFEE in those classic metal cans. Keith and others of us have saved/collected them. I foggy now, but wasn't the boat on the STEAMBOAT COFFEE can one of the Streckfus boats? Those cans today are collector items. I used to see them years back in garages and workshops used to hold nails, nuts, bolts, washers etc. Mu grandfathers food business back in the 1940s/1950s sold cases of STEAMBOAT COFFEE each day. Cheers!

Hey, cool.
Bigfoot has made a comeback so maybe the steamboat is too!
....No Ron.... >:
Jim.....the other day I was at a railroad historical meeting and Mary Bill Bauer was there...she's doing fine and wants to ride the Transiberian Railroad next year. She was telling me that years ago she gave you the tapes she and Bill made at the 1960 Tell City whistle blow for you to copy onto casettes, also she thinks you might have copies from the 1959 whistle blow we had on Nugents derrick boat. Do you have them and are copies available????
*RE: Mary Bill Bauer*
Hi, Jim, THANKS for news about Mary Bill Bauer and glad to know she's still on the go. Well remember her from the DQ and other river events. When she travels--she travels.
There are several Transberian Railroad train routes running, and I hope she rides the better one. The Russian journey can be ify and chancy at times. There's the better 1st Class 'TransSib' and that's the one to take with a number of stops--not the express run.
Glad you think the Howard 'Reminiscences' are worth my time/effort as you posted in another thread. Heck, I'm getting a kick not only reading it again, but typing each word and sentence. I'm also rooting for the Howard Museum each and every day. You've been so much a part of it since you were a kid. You should post your earliest memories of not only the Howard mansion, but of Mrs. Loretta Howard here for us to read.

Glad to see you rooting for the Howard every day, Dale. How about coming to join us during the Chautauqua weekend, one of its major fundraisers May 18-19? Lest we forget, the Howard is in a new era with one of our own, Keith Norrington, as its Administrator. I'd suggest to all our river friends that if possible, you fit the Chautauqua event in this year, what a salute to Keith it would be!

Hi, Judy,
Ummmmm, sounds enticing for May 18-19. I'll be home, settled from the SSHSA 'ShiPosium' on Long Beach on the QUEEN MARY Hotel by then. I know I've missed some dandy affairs at the Howard but booked up weekends, summers at the lake house in Michigan block the way. Now, if you all think you can stand me, then I'll mark my calendar. The one I attended some years ago, I purchased a couple of nice antiques at the sale. I never received an invitation to Yvonne Knight's recent retirement bash just chalking it up to limiting the names or being lost in our U.S. Mail.

ALL members were sent an invitation to Yvonne's retirement reception. They were 5 x 8 color postcards and were sent bulk mail, handled by a printing company. Sorry you didn't receive yours!
Hi, Keith,
Thanks for your posting about the invitations. I knew you guys were on top of things. No big deal but I was curious as this year I'd paid my membership with my VISA card number inside. With the mail we never know. Two locals around here said when they did receive the cards, they had been "mangled/streaked" in the U.S. Mail sorting centers high speed machines. These things happen. You know I'm always rooting for the Howard Museum. Hope to squeeze in a visit there in May. Ah, so many boats and museums and so little time.
