The owner of the PRESIDENT sent me this link to a promotional video for a future "Mega Moves" TV episode that will feature the Str. PRESIDENT being moved inland to St. Elmo, Illinois.

This video production shows the disassembly. There will apparently be another promo covering the re-assembly, when the project is near completion.

Lord have mercy! The captains Streckfus must all be rolling in their graves! The scene of the PRESIDENT pilothouse on a flatbed trailer traversing the highway reminds me of several photos Ruth Ferris took when the pilothouse of the GOLDEN EAGLE was trucked from the U.S. Army Engineer dock in St. Louis to the Community School, where it resided from 1948 until 1961. The revered relic received a police escort with Ruth following in her car. She wanted to take pictures and since there was no place to park, she drove up onto the sidewalk and jumped out with her camera!
I still have "fantasies" of the pilothouse of the Howard built MAMIE S. BARRETT being lifted off the wreck at Deer Park, Louisiana and trucked to Jeffersonville to become an exhibit in the yard of the Howard Steamboat Museum! It would be a privilege to get to PAINT it!
Like Judy, I look forward to seeing the video of the RE-assembly of the PRESIDENT! More power to 'em!

Thats an interesting video, but sad to see her getting all cut up. I hope they can get her put back together again, but I'll bet she won't look much like the original when and if they do. What ever happened to the President's original steam engines? I believe they were still in place after she was dieselized. I hope they were saved somewhere.

Prez' engines
The engines were still aboard her when she was taken apart. They were taken to St. Elmo. One pitman and crank is not visible there, it doesn't mean its not there, its just not readily visible.

I just realized that this series is broadcasted in Germany too and believe it or not, but tomorrow is the sequal about the President!!
Here´s a link to photos. Don´t ask me what No. 2 (a pic of the Ticonderoga) has to do with the Prez and actually they are using this photo in their program guide!

The TICONDEROGA image is in there by mistake, I would say. There is something ironic about seeing the TICONDERAGO... Makes me wonder if the "Mega Moves" producers have included the TICONDERAGO as a separate story in the final video production of the PRESIDENT's move.
When the "Mega Moves" producers first contacted me a few years ago (looking for leads on large ships being moved over land) I had first suggested the TICONDERAGO, since it had been moved by rail in the 1950s. But they wanted something happening now. The PRESIDENT project was just getting started, so I suggested they look into it also. Maybe they will have a story about the moves of both boats in the final video(?).
