Yesterday was a sad day for steamboat enthusiasts in Germany: The last operating paddlewheel steamboat on the Rhine River, the GOETHE, had her final cruise under steam. The steam engines will be replaced by a diesel-hydraulic engine. For details see the news item in the steamboats.org news section: Rhine River steamboat Goethe under steam for the last time | steamboats.org
Conversion of the Goethe
I am very sorry to hear that news. I was lucky enough to see this fine steamboat in operation this year and in 2005 while visiting Rudeshime. I 2005 I took a ferry from Aussmanhausen back to Rudeshime and our boat followed the Goethe. It was very exciting because the boats were operating so close to each other. You felt like you could reach out and touch her. It is a beautiful boat that looks to be in immaculate condition and deserves to remain steam. I have attempted to add some photos. The last two show how close we were while making the landing.

THANKS for posting it Franz;;
I enjoyed the the video,.. And was GOOD to hear the GOETHE'S voice,, being the Whistle LOVER I am,,..
Yet sad to think it won't be heard,,unless thay are going to blow it on air ,,..
