Steamboating colleagues:
Thanks to one busy Franz for posting the 'dusty box' photo of the Str. GREENWOOD. WAY'S PACKET DIRECTORY Entry No. 2450 Pg. 199 has all and more about her. She, in Capt. Gordon C. Greene's words, was the "boat that laid the golden egg for the GREENE LINE." The same bell from her roof, as posted earlier on, is now in the garden court of the FAITH CHURCH around the corner from me on Salem Road, Cincinnati. Cap'n Bill Judd opined I 'think' back many months ago that the GREENWOOD is docked at New Richmond, OH up from Cincinnati. She had a good, long life but came to a sad end Nov. 17, 1925 when holed by the CHRIS GREENE going to the bottom in Cincinati with her wreck ending up below the Suspension Bridge.
*Special thanks to Shipyard Sam for looking at this photo well over a year ago and 'cleaning it up' down at the photo lab next to the 'Rabbit Hash Shipyard & Boiler Work, Inc.' Shipyard indicates that one or more guys in the photo lab got the chemicals mixed up in the back room with Kentucky bourbon and drank the wrong batch.
Cheers,
R. Dale Flick
i'm not sure that there was a wharfboat at New Richmond, and those Kentucky hills look closer to the river in this photo than the hills opposite New Richmond do in person. I have a feeling that the GREENWOOD is coming in for a landing at Portsmouth, Ohio.
Hi, Frank:
Good point on location of the Str. GREENWOOD. Portsmouth, OH also entered my mind. What about Moscow, OH? Cap'n Bill Judd E=Mailed me when he saw this picture after Shipyard Sam and the boys restored it. I can't remember now and we'll have to wait until Bill gets back at his home port. The unrestored old photo appeared to have been taken out of a passenger train window. Shipyard said they boys were in a tizzy getting the glare out of the photo. Portsmouth did/does have rail tracks at the top of the hill as I recall. Another picture for 'steamboat forensics.'
Cheers,
R. Dale Flick
'Kay, I'm stupid; where's the Pic of the Week located?
Sharon
Sheesh! Found it, finally.

Greenwood
The picture is taken as she was landing at the Moscow, Ohio wharfboat. The wharfboat was owned and operated by my Grandfather. The Judd's also operated the ferry between Moscow and Ivor, Kentucky. I have several photos taken at the same time with the Greenwood in different positions. Sorry for my delay in responding but I was in dry dock for a partial rebuild.
The Schiffers and I went somewhere near Moscow on the "river road" on the way to S & D, Bill...Which I enjoyed immensely, by the way!

Thanks for the acknowledgement. The boys did as you said; drank the fixin's and lathered your picture in Kaintuck's Best. The pic came out dandy, but the fellers ain't been the same since, and they've cultivated a mighty thirst for spirits with the Kodak label.
I didn't think that the Kaintuck shore looked like New Richmond Station. The hills are just too close to the river in that photo, and it looks as if either the state or the railroad cut out some of the sides of the hills. I confess though, I never would have guessed that it was taken at Moscow on the Ohio!
