Sidney/washington
Keith posted a pix of the WASHINGTON's calliope on the PREZ thread. Here is the 1 SIDNEY, which was rebuilt into the 2 WASHINGTON, and then 3 C.W. Stoll playing the WASHINGTON's calliope. This steamboating is an insidious disease! While I've been strolling down memory lane almost all day today, I haven't hit the treadmill or the mall walk yet!

its incurable Judy. Like a virus it can stay dormant in your bloodstream for years and then one day you gat a fever....... Really nice pix by the way.
Judy,
One of the projects that Jonathan researched this summer was a comprehensive photographic search of the Murphy, Tulane, Mercantile, and Cincinnati Inland Rivers Library photo archives to document the Western Rivers steamers which indeed carried calliopes, and where they were located aboard the boat. In some occasions, he noted when the instruments were repositioned on the vessel. In the case of the first J.S., my guess would be that the pilot and/or master didn't like the calliope situated in front of the PH as originally placed, and had it moved. Of course, positioning it forward of the PH and between the stacks would place it in easy, direct proximity to the main steam line feed from the boilers directly below, and not require a long feed line over a substantial horizontal distance. Interestingly enough, calliopes on the remaining Streckfus excursion steamers WASHINGTON, CAPITOL, J.S. DELUXE, PRESIDENT and ADMIRAL were all placed aft of the PH or on a deck above or below. When Jonathan has completed his longer, more exhaustive research paper for distribution to the museums, libraries, and river friends who supported his work, that annotated information will be part of the paper. Stay tuned!
Annie Blum here--again. I am late in getting my thoughts posted. The calliope on the Admiral was on top of the pilothouse and moved off of it in 1973.

PS: Actually, it is for sale by its owner. It was on Ebay a couple of winters ago for a while...never sold.
Click on New Stuff - December 2005 for a website that has a picture of a calliope SAID TO BE from the GOLDENROD SHOWBOAT. The calliope apparently is at the Age of Steam Railroad Museum in Dallas, Texas.
Yeah, there's actually a video of this on Youtube. Here's the link:
