For those who wish to mark their calendars well in advance, the sixth offering in my "River Ramblings" program series at the Howard Steamboat Museum will be on Saturday, August 21st. Capt. Carl Henry will present From Paddlewheels to Propellers - A View from the Pilothouse. Carl has been on the river 30 years and is currently master of the M/V FRANK T. STEGBAUER, of Southern Towing Company. He also did a lengthy stint as pilot of the Str. JULIA BELLE SWAIN at La Crosse, Wisconsin. An affable, avid river historian and excellent photographer, Carl's program is sure to please!
As always the program will begin in the carriage house at 3:00 PM (EDT) affording those who wish the opportunity to ride the Str. BELLE OF LOUISVILLE on her afternoon cruise (Noon-2:00 PM) and then have ample time to drive over to the museum for the program.
More details later!

Capt. Carl on the JBS
Here is Capt. Carl Henry in his JBS days. This should be a very interesting and informative session, considering all of Carl's experiences on the rivers and on so many rivers. Some of us are privileged to receive his monthy newsletter From the Pilothouse, which chronicles his time on the towboat and usually has beautiful shots of river scenery from that month. I'll plan on getting a suite at the Towne Suites so we can gather pre and post talks too, as we have in the past.
