A snickers bar to she or he that first identifies what the following have in common as of last Friday November 6, 2009: Don Clare, Vic Canfield, Barbara Huffman, Tom Schiffer, Charlie Parrish and Frank Prudent and, perhaps, other River Rats?? (hint: it is not MOR membership) Participants excluded from the offer. Cap'n Walnut

Sigh! Looks like there are no takers for the Snickers bar. The list shown comprises some of those known to long-time members of this board who participated in writing the Northern Kentucky Encylclopedia. Those named covered the Ohio and Licking rivers, Rabbit Hash, Ohio River bathing beaches of a century ago, Virginia Bennett and selected steamers. The weighty tome (mine weighs right at seven pounds) was introduced at a book-signing at NKU last Friday night. It was co-edited by my old neighbor Paul Tennekotte and has been some years in the making. The event was MC'd by Nick Clooney, a long-time friend of the river. Please understand that there are MANY other items in there besides our beloved river and steamboats.

Congratulations to you all for your contributions to that tome. I remember hearing about it back at the beginning of the project. I'm sure the event was interesting, with Nick Clooney speaking. He spoke at an MOR meeting in Maysville several years ago, relating his childhood river memories, which included living above a drug store during a flood. He is a genuine friend of the river. I hope each of you received a copy of the book for your efforts...

Unfortunately,I missed the big book signing last week. I was on my way to Ol' Blighty on the R.M.S. QUEEN MARY 2. Nevertheless when I checked Steamboats.Org from the ship, I didn't get the answer right either!
