Marietta College's Library and Art Department is opening the gallery's 2008-09 season with "River Retrospective: Ohio Valley Transportation before Paved Roads."
The exhibition, which is an overview of steamboats and river navigation on the upper Ohio River and its tributaries, will open with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, and continue through Sept. 26.
Photographs for the exhibit come in large part from the college library's Special Collections and consist predominantly of images from the collections of Harry Philip Fischer, a graduate of Marietta Academy, Class of 1896, and Stephen Durward Hoag, a member of the Marietta College, Class of 1923. Both were active photographers of the Marietta area.
