I just watched an old Elvis movie called Frankie and Johnny. It showed a steamboat or 2 in the duration of the film. What was the name of the boat or boats used. The one in the opening credits looked alot like the Delta Queen in post 1948 form. The thing that makes me think multiple boats were used is the fantail of one shot is wooden.
Thanks,
Ed

Ed, according to IMDB, this movie came out in 1966, and began filming in 1965. The only filming location listed is "The Lot" in West Hollywood, CA. Being as the DELTA QUEEN and the BELLE OF LOUISVILLE were the only steamboats in existence at this time, it would seem it would have to be one of those. However, I suppose it could also be the sternwheel steamboat at Disneyland. I have not seen the movie, so can't help you in that way. I know also many times one location or object will be used for some filming and another will be used later on, trying to pass them off as the same. That could be what has happened here. Elvis movies were not known for their large budgets.

One side piece of trivia: This movie also starred Donna Douglas, better known as Ellie Mae Clampett in "The Beverly Hillbillies".

The two stills on IMDB show the boat used in the MGM Classic SHOWBOAT....so I am willing to bet the DQ you see in there is stock footage the studio had. That is my two cents worth. That said, I ahve not seen the movie either. Perhaps I need to now!

In the opening credits of "Frankie and Johnie" the same footage of the DELTA QUEEN is used that was originally taken for "Raintree County." It was filmed below Cincinnati around Anderson's Ferry. Other steamboat shots include stock studio footage of California boats and the boat that was use in the MGM production of "Showboat." The name of the boat in the film is the S.S. MISSISSIPPI QUEEN.
