It used to be the law that every boat had to have posted in the pilot house a copy of the Rules of the Road. In the old days they were printed on one poster sized paper (now adays they come in a book which must be kept in the pilothouse) which was framed and hung. Because of lack of wall space, many times these were hung on the ceiling, see the attached picture..look above the pilots head. Does anyone know about what date it became the law that the Rules of the Road had to be posted?
The reason I ask is I have an old copy which I found while inspecting the HERBERT E. JONES when it was laid up at the mouth of the Kanawha River about 1963/4. I want to have my copy framed and give it to the Howard Museum and would like to have this information for them to use.
