The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County (Illinois) is seeking a photo or drawing of the paddlewheeler, City of Louisiana. Built in 1857, it carried Lincoln and Douglas from the 1858 debate in Quincy to Alton. It was chartered in 1862 as a hospital ship and its name was changed to the R.C. Wood in 1863.

We have a photo of it as a hospital ship but need one for the 1857-1862 period to use on a story board about the importance of the river. This story board will be one of several in a major project to tell about the Lincoln-Douglas Debate held in Quincy.

I have contacted the MO Historical Society, The Herman Pot Waterway Photograph Collection and the Univ. of WI-LaCrosse with no results.

Thank you,

Jean Kay
