Steamboating colleagues:
Yep, by 'yimminy and gosh be darn' the great photo of the SKINBLADNER also caught my attention. When I return to Michigan tomorrow I'll ask my Scandinavian neighbor at the lake just what 'SKINBLADNER' means--of anything. Survival of these boats in Europe remarkable depending on operating in clear, cold, fresh water with no salt or high heat/humidity. I'd wage a golden crown this boat's engines are dual reciprocating and/or single mount. These classic boats on European rivers, lakes true 'living treasures.' The one I steamed on the Danube from Vienna north built in the late 1870s with the main saloon done in grand Hapsburg late rocco art with frescoes on the overheads. Reason was the last of the pre 1918 Hapsburgs used the steamer to convey them to their summer estates up the river. Food aboard was wonderful. I have 35 mm. color slides of these and others buried in my dusty boxes. I well remember the GALIA operating on Lake Lucern. Well, what do I know?

From the shores now of mighty lake Michigan for for summer.
Have a good trip to Michigan, Dale. Why don't you bring those slides to S&D in September? You could even just pick up one or two of your "dusty boxes" and we can all be surprised looking through them together!
