Hello everyone,

I have put together some pics of this years steamboat visits to Point Pleasant, WV.

The first boat in was the Delta Queen as she made several stops here at Point, and then about a week ago, the Mississippi Queen made two stops.

Here are the pictures with comments about certain ones. Just click the link and it will show you the pic that is hosted on the internet. 😉

Delta Queen first...

Arrived at the wharf to see the boat!

Mary was onboard as the Riverlorian, and I got to meet her, and come aboard! Thanks Mary! 🙂

While on the wing bridge of the DQ, I took a photo of the "Dirk Taylor". A towboat I grew up one, the first boat I had ever been aboard, and steered. There has been many times I have been aboard this boat taking pictures of the Delta Queen. Oh... how the tables have turned! 😀

Captain Schultz was nice enough to let me come up into the pilothouse of the DQ. This was the first time I had ever been in the wheelhouse of a real steamboat! Thanks Captain Schultz! 🙂

We had a long talk about being a river pilot, and Captain Schultz gave me alot of advice on reaching my goal. "Picture of him checking the rudders and steam engines"

What a view!

Off the boat, and now watching her depart

Thanks again for letting me aboard the DQ Mary! It was great to see everything from the steam engines, and calliope to the wheelhouse!

2007 Sternwheel Regatta and the American Queen

Thanks for posting the great pictures.

Next year's Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta is scheduled for July 5,6,7.

The American Queen is scheduled to be in Point Pleasant July 7. This is a change in schedule, she was originally set to be in Point Pleasant on July 8.

Will there be enough room for the AQ and the boats that will be there for the entire regatta? It would make for some great pictures?

Thanks for the comments...

Yes I am looking forward to finally seeing the AQ in Point next year. The fact she will be there during our regatta is amazing. The past couple of years the Point regatta has mainly been a street fair, and very few boats are there. Hopefully next year will be different.

I made this rough map of the river front to give you an idea. There should be plenty of room for the AQ and the other sternwheelers.

I could hear the caliope playing, especially in the MQ departing shots. Seeing that smoke rising from those pipes brought fond memories.
