Board member Ernst just boarded the steamer DS Schoenbrunn out of Linz on the Danube river for a daytrip. There´s a nice webcam where you can see the boat (not right now)

when it returns at 20:05 (German/Austrain time, so -7 hours Central, -6 hours Eastern). It should be enough light to watch the arrival.

Instructions for the webcam: click on "Live-Steuerung" (to the right under the panorama photo), then click on "Start Control". As soon as it´s your turn a pull down menue is available under the picture, choose "DSF Schoenbrunn" there for the dock.

The DS Schoenbrunn is scheduled to arrive at Grein, Austria, at 13:45 until 15:45 (Austrian time). We might be able to see her on this webcam

Unfortunately this one refreshes only every 30 min.

Neat....the landscape, (not the buildings) looks a lot like what one would see around the Upper Mississippi & Upper Great Lakes region! Yeah, Wisconsin & Minnesota!

It is a small world!

Hi, Carmen & Pete:
Carmen, thanks for the great link and I'll be looking for more pictures on this thread.

Pete, you're right about the scenery etc. Been years and years since I made that trip and note that much looks familiar but there have been new structures built along with restoration/preservation of the vitage buildings. The river piers/wharves we see were not there then. Thirty-seven years is a long time ago.

A number of the old steamers were still in operation then. I noted right off the lack of whistles while steaming on the river between the high hills and bluffs. Whistle sounds would bounce and be confusing to the pilots. A system of signal flags were used aboard the boats visible to others going up and down stream.

Cheers,
R. Dale Flick
