It appears that the owners of the BECKY THATCHER have decided to lower the minimum bid for the sale of the boat on EBAY. For many months it's been $550.000, but today is $200,000. Type in the search words STERNWHEEL RIVERBOAT to access the listing. Auction ends May 3rd.
Keith, this is getting into your price range, isn't it? Of course, you'd probably wind up spending $550000, when you factor in the restorations and potential movement to Norrington Landing, Indiana.
I used to run the bar end of the Becky during the turn of the century...2000.
I thought I knew the complete history of the Becky, but I find that many points are missing if you ask the current owners who have it up for sale.
The boat sank....I know this because I was on it pulling off furniture while it was still on the old locks in Marietta...ask the new owners...it has never been under water....FALSE!!!
Ask when the last hull checkup was....the owners _do not seam to know the real date_. ((edited))
Also the boat _in my opinion_ ((edited)) is haunted....the man in blue is a frequent vistior of the Becky Thatcher...I have seen him and heard him. Is he a past captain? I don't know but he seems to travel the boat front to back during the later parts of the evening.
The Becky was purchased for approx. $60,000. It is currently for sale for $399,000. The current seller _doesn't seam to know all details of_ ((edited)) the Becky's history. I think it should be sold back to the Marietta area for a fair price. After all....what have the current owners done to it???? NOTHING!
