Several articles in The Marietta Times within the past week report that a group of Marietta investors are working to purchase the BECKY THATCHER (formerly the Corps of Engineers Str. MISSISSIPPI) and reopen her as a restaurant and theatre. The group said they are trying to act quickly before the boat was sold to another buyer and moved out of town.

I sure hope that the Becky stayes where it is.My mother worked on that boat.Her name was Margret M Mechem who latter became Margret M Petty.

Welcome aboard the steamboat forum Robert! I note in your biography that you not only have made trips on the DQ, but have worked for Union Barge Line, and on the Str. AVALON in 1958. When did your mother work aboard the MISSISSIPPI/BECKY THATCHER?
