Another steamboat anniversary today! The Str. MISSISSIPPI (#3) was decommissioned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Memphis on April 19, 1961. She was replaced by the diesel towboat MISSISSIPPI (#4) which has since been replaced by the fifth vessel of the name. The fourth MISSISIPPI, after years of languishing on the Yazoo, is slated to soon become part of a new riverfront museum at Vicksburg.

As most regular visitors to this board are aware, MISSISSIPPI #3 (1926-1961) has long been the restaurant/museum boat BECKY THATCHER, having been at St. Louis for many years and, since 1975, at Marietta, Ohio, where she is dark and for sale.
