I have an old photograph of the Streckfus Steamer "Capitol" docking in Clinton, Iowa in Aug. 1920. I couldn't read the writing on the back at first, but noticed that the steamer in the photo showed some resemblance to the excursion steamer JS. Once I found the company that owned the JS, I searched and found a list of excursion steamers the company had owned.
When I saw a steamer that resembled mine, I was able to figure out the writing on the back. The details on the history of the "Capitol" were hard to find and I thought someone here might help me fill in the blanks! Thanks!

Streckfus and CAPITOL history

Send me your email address and I'll send you some information about both Streckfus Steamers and the CAPITOL ( I have a 'little bit' of stuff on them).

In the meantime, here's a picture of the CAPITOL in the New Orleans harbor, and one of her Master, Capt. Roy Streckfus, in his office. The large dark-framed picture on the wall is of his father, the Commodore John Streckfus, who founded Streckfus Steamers. That picture was taken on the JS DELUXE (nee QUINCY).7720.jpg7721.jpg
