The Str. BELLE OF LOUISVILLE was out for her shakedown cruise this morning, and with temperature currently at 34 degrees (after being 85 earlier this week!) she was making a grand display of glorious clouds of snowy white steam as she puffed and chuffed down the river through the bridges.
Despite the frigid temps, spring is OFFICIALLY here when the BELLE comes back to life each April and her thunderous whistle reverberates over the Ohio.
In celebration of her spring debut, attached is a photo of the BELLE in her "youth" as the IDLEWILD at Memphis.
All the best to the Belle's fine crew as the grande dame of Western Rivers steamboats begins her 93rd season!

Thats really is exciting...except for weather...I sure hope it warms up the end of the month.

I found the original of the IDLEWILD photo last night and pencilled on the back is April 1, 1926, Memphis. It appears that she's tied up just above the wharfboat for the Str. KATE ADAMS.
