Thanks for the photos of Lexie's mural, Keith. I've peeked at it before, but never really got the whole idea of what was there - it's great! I can't see "Steamboat Willie", but you can be sure that's the first thing I'm going to look for when I go aboard next week!
Wonder if we could manage to get it uncovered - may be a little the worse for wear after all these years, but let's face it, so is the DQ - it's all part of her charm and character, and why we love her so much.
For a couple of years there was another hanging over the present one that is covering Lexie's. It appeared to be brand new and probably specially made for the DQ - showed up on one trip I was on, but was gone when the boat came out of lay-up this year. Anyone know from whence it came and where it went? I'm sure Jazzou knows..............
Wonderful pictures, Keith, thanks. You said that you have pictures of all the ol' DQ signage...could you post them? A lot of work on your part, I guess, but I love looking at this stuff. Notice the ceiling? I do like today's stamped tin ceiling much better.
Can't wait to try to look at the mural in it's entirety, hopefully the end of August. Gotta check out Willie.
Glad you enjoyed the photos Bruno! I think the pictures I took of the signage aboard the DQ are all on slides, of which I have thousands!
1978 you say......I played that drum set from 97 to 05. Tom Kasparek is still playing it today! I knew it was old, but didn't realize it was from the 70's. The main thing I notice that's missing in these pictures is that huge water pipe that's now in the middle of the stage. It runs straight down into the drummer's room which is right under the piano. I could always tell when the repeater's party was over, because Captain Gabe would always end it with a rousing version of Waiting For the Robert E. Lee, which I could hear "clearly" in my room.

Hi Pat,
I guess it would be nice to have that mural uncovered, but having a curtain there helps the acoustics in the room. Besides, where would we (musicians) hide things like instrument cases, water bottles and pictures of our mothers?
:O)
Paul
Back when Lexie painted that mural, we didn't have any curtain there at any time - I guess because Vic didn't need to hide a picture of his mother anywhere - she was standing right behind him! And there were no water bottles to stash either - the bands' drink glasses were right in full view! And acoustics??? I guess since we could hear them, it was ok in the pre-hi tech days.
