The W. J. Quinlan ferryboat is described in an article in the Quad City Times.
The ferry returneth
There is a quote from Judy Patsch regarding ferry service in the early '60's.
My parents had talked of their date nights on the Quinlan dancing to the music in the evenings. One of my uncles, a retired fireman, was on duty the night the boat burned.
The article reports of tentative plans for a ferry to again run between Davenport, IA and Rock Island, IL. We certainly wish there was a car ferry running between LeClair, Iowa and Rapid City, Illinois right now. Work on the I-80 bridge allows westbound traffic into Iowa but eastbound traffic must use a bridge in Bettendorf, Rock Island or up in Clinton.
