Hello Mary

Hello Mary. Glad to see you on here. Mary, do you know if there are any webcams that overlook the area of the river where the MQ and DQ are?

Bridgecam

Go to the webcam link on this site. Louisiana/NOLA/Bridgecam. You'll see both boats at Perry St. The River cam aims towards Algiers Point/Canal St.

Hi Fred, Great to hear from you. I was afraid they hadn't given you ANY time to do preventative work. These reports are re-assuring. I won't even begin to speculate on the safekeeping place, just as long as it's secure and secret!
I would think long term storage would require blowing air through all the lines, remove all moisture and then fill with nitrogen--at least that's what works on steam cars--if ya got the $$$ to do it (like Bill Harrah had).
All these reports are very re-assuring. And I owe the Chief an email, so's I'd better get to it this weekend! Gotta go, still at work!

Fred, You're OK in my book, I take back everything I've said about you... 😉. Seriously you made my breathing a little easier, I'll state for most of us, you made us relieved. Thank you!!

The offer will always be good, beers on me...

You take care and stay in touch,

It was neat to see those areas again.

As a passenger, I had the distinct pleasure as a 16 or 17 year old to travel into the "secret areas" of the Delta Queen while assisting "@@@@@@" (who will remain nameless!) distribute their "little care packages" from the grocery store!!!! Being that I was a passenger, and the other person in question an entertainer, we could carry anything onboard at that time...

Needless to say, it sure opened my eyes in one big hurry! ;+)

JammerJawz has added quite a few more videos. I didn't count, but I bet he has about 18-20 now of various pax and non-pax Delta Queen spaces now. I was especially impressed with the video of the crew quarters, I guess nothing is a secret now. And also the video showing the DQ's calliope protected against the elements, thank engineering for that. And it is very sad to see parts of some of the videos, like seeing "my" bar stool in the Texas, and Deb's favorite reading couch in the Betty Blake...

Please, if you view and like his videos, give them a five star rating.

Jammer, if you're reading, thanks...a lot...I'm especially impressed with the music selections that you've chosen to go with the videos, very appropriate. Any chance you can do the same basic area videos, despite the demolition, on the Mississippi Queen also, say pilothouse, crew quarters, engine room and the like?

Dear Jammer: I echo Bruno's sentiments and would only say that though I've ridden on the MISS Q, I've never seen the engine room. Miz Walnut fussed at me that she can never find me once we board the boat. I told her to look in the engine room. If not there, look in the pilot house. If not in either place, drag the river! So, add me to any list requesting those two places. But, rest assured that if you don't care to do that, I feel that you've gone far past anything reasonable already and add my sincere thanks for what you've already done!...Cap'n Walnut.

Bruno,

I am so glad to see the calliope protected from the elements...and pring eyes! I hope they have covered the whistle, too! I see form previous postings the bell is covered...wow, the videos are scary...but offer alot of solace for those of us who wait for the better days to come!

Hey Tom the engine room on the MQ is nothing like the one on the DQ. Its more like the DQ's lower engine room. It was loud and unattractive and nowhere to sit and talk. Back in the day I used to be able to go back to the DQ's engine room and sit and chat or play cards or cribbage with the engineer.

Travis, calliope whistles are also protected, and it appears like JammerJawz recognizes that this is a good thing as he pans the video over to the Misssissippi Queen's non-protected whistles, see here:

But the main whistle?

by edit, I don't see the main whistle in this other video, and I'm thinking I should...maybe it was removed for safe keeping:

What really gets to me with JammerJaws videos are all the telegraphs at "Finished with Engine"...that brings a small choke...

Mel: While I've been on the MISS Q and the AM Q under way, I've never been in the MISS Q engine room. I heard that it was too small to host visitors, having low head room. I've been in the DQ engine room but never on her while under way...and, never in the lower engine room. I note that the DQ has a single cylinder steam pumping engine down below. Looks to me like it may circulates non-contact cooling river water through the condenser. I have a similar engine out of the Peters Cartridge Company that ran the forced draft fan under the boiler room. A 7" x 7" engine, it too does not have reversing capability, has closed crankcase with internal oiling system and has a piston valve. Cap'n Walnut.
