Uncle Ben's rice and River Queen Mixed nuts? Just curious which boats are used. There is no urgent need for this trivial information. But, before I research the topic, I figured I would ask here.

Thanks.

I looked at the Uncle Ben's Rice canister that Keith Norrington gave me and it is the spitting imabe of the Julia Belle Swain. The name on the bulkhead looks like it is trying to read "Belle" but the first and second letters have been altered just enough so that they are not really letters. I suspect that it is supposed to represent a generic boat. Keith may be able to add more information when he gets back on line Monday.

Yep, Ted, it's the JULIA BELLE SWAIN on my Uncle Ben's canister too.

THis should be a new thread but I can't figger out how to start one. The picture of the week is certainly interesting. The two steamers that I can make out are, in my opinion, "down river" boats. Two jackstaffs on big SW boats tell me that. Too, the photo was taken from the approach of the then new Suspension Bridge. That too is a clue in that the bigger boats could not get under the bridge in many stages of water and moored where shown...that would be the US Mail Line Wharfboat, methinks and my W.A.G. is that those steamers could well be the AMERICA, the UNITED STATES or the GENERAL LYTLE.
