It say's on the Save the Delta Queen Facebook page "There are rumors now the Delta Queen may be running the rivers in 2014"

Is this true or just a joke.

Seeing as how she is still owned by Xanterra, a company that has no interest in running her I think this is a rumor and nothing more. 2014 is not very far away and a whole lot of things would have to happen in that short time, not to mention the amount of work she needs IF she were to get an exemption, which also wouldn't happen overnight. This congress can't even pass a budget, I don't see the Delta Queen becoming a priority to them unfortunately. Sounds like a dream to me.

Actually might be a good time for a "Rider" added to Legislation when Military & Regulatory organizations are being pressed to cut budgets.......it no one was watching very closely and occupied with more pressing things it could possibly happen. Strictly in my Humble Opinion. That being said with a past record on the exemption subject I am reasonably sure Walter Blessy would be watching VERY Closely.

Jim, isn't this partially how the DQ was saved in the 1970s? A decent congressman attached the DQ bill to something else that needed to be approved. In my opinion, they should try it again. But, that's just part of the battle. Getting the boat ready for cruising, and actually operating it as a cruising steamboat are also needed. And, where would the money come from? They'd need to align with an existing cruise line company, in order to speed that along. Hmmm, perhaps a longshot would be that the AQSC could help out.

Good ideas

I think it would be prime time to get the exemption. It would never get noticed with all the other issues going through. Also if you have an exemption you have a reason to invest money to return her to the rivers. Many great ideas from many great people. We just need the circus fleas to listen.

That is how they saved the Dubuque Boat and Boiler Works. Snuck some pork in an appropriations bill.
